Ascanio Libertano

Ascanio Libertano (also Ascanio Libertani ; * in Barchi ; † March 10, 1607 in Cagli ) was an Italian Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Cagli .

Life

He obtained the academic degree of Doctor iuris utriusque and was on November 27, 1584 by Pope Gregory XIII. appointed inquisitor in Malta . In the absence of Bishop Tomaso Gargallo , he was Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Malta until he returned to Malta in June 1586. Libertano's designated successor, Bishop Giovanni Battista Pietralata , died on the day of his arrival, July 21, 1587 in Malta. Ascanio Libertano left the island in the same year.

He was appointed Bishop of Cagli on July 19, 1591. He received his episcopal ordination on August 4, 1591 in Rome by Cardinal Girolamo Bernerio OP , Bishop of Ascoli Piceno ; Co-consecrators were the former Archbishop of Ragusa , Paolo Alberi , and Curia Bishop Léonardo Abel . He remained Bishop of Cagli until his death.
