Asciodema obsoleta is a type of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs are 3.6 to 5.0 millimeters long. They have a very pale greenish basic color and are densely hairy white on the upper side, with occasional dark hairs being present. The spurs of the splints ( tibia ) are dark and do not arise from dark points. The thighs ( femora ) are not dotted, the antennae are pale. One can confuse the species with Megalocoleus molliculus , which has a pale blue-green basic color with gray spots and fine brown hairs.

Occurrence and habitat

The species is distributed from southern Scandinavia across western and central Europe to western Africa and in the southeast to the Balkans. It was introduced into Canada by humans. In Germany, the species is rare in the northwest and occurs there up to the Elbe , in the southwest ( Rhineland-Palatinate ) it is locally common. So far there is no evidence in Austria.

Way of life

The bugs live on broom broom ( Cytisus scoparius ) in Germany , and also on gorse ( Ulex europaeus ) in Western Europe . They presumably feed on zoophytophagus, i.e. both predatory and on sap. The adults can be observed from mid-June to August, in northern Germany occasionally until the beginning of September. From mid-July onwards there are often only females to be found.
