Asenblut is a melodic death metal band from Göttingen . It was founded in 2007 and is under contract with the Hamburg record label AFM . Asenblut have released four studio albums and a demo limited to 100 copies.

history

Asenblut was started in 2006 by Tim "Tetzel" Schmidt, initially as a nameless project, but soon disbanded after only a few unsuccessful rehearsals due to excessive professional and student stress. The actual establishment with the current naming by Tim "Tetzel" Schmidt and Claus Cleinkrieg can be dated to October 2007. Tim Schmidt and Claus Cleinkrieg got to know each other when Schmidt took guitar lessons at Cleinkrieg for a while. It was decided to do some rehearsals to find out whether this could be musically fruitful. Soon afterwards a drummer was found, and the rehearsals led to an extensive repertoire in a short time. Thereupon Cleinkrieg and Tetzel decided to continue the band. Due to the higher expenditure of time and the possibility of performing live, however, drummer J. decided in 2008 to leave the band. Shortly afterwards, Maté "Balrogh" Balogh took his place. This is how today's core of the Asenblut band was formed.

The first album was created under the still young German independent label Asatru-Klangwerke. The debut album Aufbruch from 2009 is strongly influenced by the search for the musical direction and the attempt to do justice to all different influences. From the beginning of Asenblut's publications, the press repeatedly made comparisons with the Swedish band Amon Amarth .

Shortly after the publication of Aufbruch , however, the label appeared with dubious content, which allowed conclusions to be drawn about an ideological attitude, in the context of which the band Asenblut did not want to be placed. As a result, Asenblut strictly distanced itself from the collaboration with the label and ended it immediately.

From today's perspective, the band's collaboration at that time is commented on as follows:

[...] Our "label" at the time is to blame for this whole situation [...] Later they also sold right-wing rock and things in their shop. That's why we have the shit on our heels. The day after the "Aufbruch" release [...] we broke up with them [...].

A new record deal came about in 2011 with MDD Records , where you felt better musically looked after and could act free of stigmata. In the following years Asenblut was marked by many line-up changes, especially on bass and second guitar. In addition, there were problems with rooms for the rehearsals, so that longer and longer creative breaks had to be taken. During the recording of the second studio album, Tim "Tetzel" Schmidt also fell ill with an autoimmune disease that also affected his central nervous system. During the lengthy recovery, Schmidt decided to concentrate only on his role as a singer and front man in the future. The line-up of the rhythm guitar was taken over by new band members. In 2013 Von Wort und Taten appeared and already showed a clearer compositional orientation. Although influences from a wide variety of sub-genres continued to flow into the works, it became apparent that the musical direction was developing towards Melodic Death Metal.

After successfully winning the "Devil's Wall Trophy" and the associated slot at the Rock Harz Festival in 2015, Asenblut was signed by AFM-Records, a label of Soulfood Music. In the late summer of 2016 the musically clearly matured work Berserker was released , which was recorded in the Greenman studios together with producer Sebastian “Seeb” Levermann, singer and mastermind of the German power metal band Orden Ogan . Singer Tetzel also worked as a fighting actor in the video for the song Berserker by the group Harpyie , which was released on March 31, 2017.

Furthermore, the EP "Legenden" was released in spring 2018, which contained completely reworked and arranged pieces from the debut album "Aufbruch". The release of a 4 long player album is planned for spring 2020 under the title "Die wilde Jagd".

style

music

Asenblut cannot be clearly classified into a sub-genre of metal. Musically, the band's development over four releases to date corresponds most closely to the genre of (Melodic) Death Metal. Nevertheless, strong influences of classical Thrash Metal, but also stylistic elements of Black Metal can be recognized in the compositions, as well as many borrowings from the NWOBHM era. The compositions on the album Berserker have a much larger proportion of melodies with a high recognition value, whereas the basic compositional structures are much more conventional and less progressive than the earlier albums.

Texts

Lyrically, based on the name of the band, they initially used predominantly from the area of Nordic mythologies. In the meantime, however, the subject areas have become broader. There are always references to fantasy literature, but also to pop culture and socio-cultural topics.

instrumentation

Asenblut plays classic Metal Line-Up with the Cast drums, two guitars, bass and vocals. As is common in many modern extreme metal genres, the singing is predominantly guttural , with individual passages also being sung with high screams. The guitars were initially tuned in drop-des tuning (Db-Ab-Db-Gb-Bb-Eb), rarely standard Eb (Eb-Ab-Db-Gb-Bb-Eb). More recent releases have appeared in Drop H (HF # -BEG # -C #) tuning. In addition to typical heavy metal riffing, modern style elements such as blast beats, tremolo picking passages, but also solos and catchy melody passages find their way into the compositions.
