Asháninka is the language of the ethnic group of the same name in Peru . It belongs to the Arawak languages .

In Peru, 0.3% of the population have Asháninka as their mother tongue. This puts the language in fourth place in this country, after Spanish , Quechua and Aymara . The language is most strongly represented in the departamentos Ucayali (4.3%), Junín (4.0%) and Pasco (3.3%). The total number of native speakers aged 3 and over is 73,567.
