Ashari Danudirdjo

Ashari Danudirdjo (born November 3, 1922 in Semarang , † April 2, 2010 in Jakarta ) was an Indonesian sailor , lieutenant general , politician and diplomat .

biography

After attending school, he entered the service of the Indonesian armed forces (Tentara Nasional Indonesia (TNI)) and was, among other things, commander of a battalion in Jawa Tengah . He later rose to Brigadier General and in 1967 to Major General . Most recently he was Lieutenant General (Letnan Jenderal) of the TNI.

Danudirdjo took part in the sailing competitions at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome . Together with Josef Muskita and Eri Sudewo , he took 26th place in the dragon class.

He later became politically active and was appointed Minister for the Textile Industry in the government of President Sukarno on August 27, 1964 and held this office until March 28, 1966. On March 27, 1966, he was promoted to President Sukarno as part of a government reshuffle Minister of Commerce appointed. After another cabinet reshuffle, President Suharto appointed him Minister for Basic Industry, Light Industry and Energy on October 11, 1967. He was a member of the Suharto cabinet until June 6, 1968.

He was also Ambassador to the United States of America from February 15, 1978 to July 12, 1982 . On February 15, 1978, he handed over his credentials to US President Jimmy Carter together with other newly accredited ambassadors . Shortly before the end of his term of office, the new embassy building was inaugurated in June 1982.

In 1999 his autobiography was published under the title "Antara tugas dan hobi".
