Ashikaga Yoshihide

Ashikaga Yoshihide ( Jap. 足利義栄 * 1538 , † 28. October 1568 ) was the 14th shogun of the Ashikaga shogunate , the short period from February to September 1568 during the Muromachi period in Japan ruled. He was the grandson of the 11th Shogun, Ashikaga Yoshizumi .

Supported by Matsunaga Hisahide and followers of Miyoshi Nagayoshi , Yoshihide Seii Taishogun became the 13th Shogun, Ashikaga Yoshiteru , three years after the death of his predecessor and cousin . Because of the political situation at that time, however, he could not move into the capital Kyoto .

In September 1568 Oda Nobunaga marched into Kyoto and installed Ashikaga Yoshiaki as the 15th Shogun. Yoshihide died soon after of an illness.
