In July 2005, the left-back, who is strong in playing and fighting, moved to London for twelve million euros for English club Chelsea . In his first season he won the English championship and the English league cup .
Only a year later del Horno Chelsea left back and moved back to Spain for Valencia . He signed a six-year contract and again cost twelve million euros. In his first season he struggled with injuries so that he could only play six games. For the 2007/08 season, del Horno initially moved back to his home club Athletic Bilbao on loan . By the end of the season, the club also had a purchase option of three million euros. In Bilbao, high hopes were set in del Horno, as he should remedy the defensive weakness that had been acute in the last two seasons.
As Athletic Bilbao was not satisfied with its performance, the purchase option was not drawn. That is why the native Basque had to return to Valencia CF, where he was rarely used. On January 30, 2010, he moved to Real Valladolid on loan for the end of the 2009/10 season .
For the 2010/11 season he was loaned to UD Levante .

He played ten international matches and was originally in the squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany . However, an injury forced him to cancel his participation.
