Asprovalta ( Greek Ασπροβάλτα ( f. Sg. )) Is a district of the municipality of Volvi on the Strymonian Gulf in the far east of the regional district of Thessaloniki . As the largest holiday center in Macedonia , Asprovalta has achieved a high level of awareness. Asprovalta is located directly on the motorway 2 and on the national road 2 , the route of which corresponds to the ancient Via Egnatia .

Until June 2010, Asprovalta was the administrative seat of the municipality of Agios Georgios . After the municipality and administrative reform decided in May 2010 under the name Kallikratis Plan , Asprovalta lost its administrative seat. It was subordinated to the newly created municipality of Volvi; its administrative seat is the town of Stavros, 8 km west of Asprovalta .

According to the last census from 2011, Asprovalta has almost 3,000 inhabitants, although the number increases many times over in the summer months due to the many holiday home owners.

Asprovalta has more than 10 km of coastline and is located at the foot of Mount Kerdylio , which reaches an altitude of over 1080 meters within the town limits.

Most of the inhabitants of Asprovalta come from Asia Minor and were resettled in 1923 as part of the population exchange following the Greco-Turkish War . Today Asprovalta lives almost exclusively from tourism and retail.
