Associazione Guide e Scouts Cattolici Italiani
The Associazione Guide e Scouts Cattolici Italiani (AGESCI, Association of Catholic Scouts in Italy ) is the largest association of scouts in Italy . The co-educational association has around 177,000 members. Through the Federazione Italiana dello Scautismo , AGESCI is a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and the World Organization of the Scout Movement .
The association was created in 1974 through the merger of the Associazione Scouts Cattolici Italiani, founded in 1916, and the Associazione Guide Italiane, founded in 1943 .
Two minority associations are affiliated to AGESCI:
- the South Tyrolean scouts for the German-speaking minority in South Tyrol and
- the Slovenska Zamejska Skavtska Organizacija for the Slovenian minority in Friuli Venezia Giulia .
AGESCI works in three age groups:
- Lupetti e Coccinelle (L / C; wolves and ladybugs ) for children between 8 and 12 years
- Esploratori e Guide (E / G; Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts) for children and young people between 11 and 16 years
- Rover e Scolte (R / S; Rover and Ranger ) for young people between 16 and 21 years of age
Older members work as group leaders ( Capi ) or switch to the Movimento Adulti Scout Cattolici Italiani (comparable to the Austrian Scout Guild in Austria and the Association of German Old Scout Guilds in Germany). The MASCI is a member of the International Scout and Guide Fellowship (ISFG).
