You can find them in the mountains up to heights of 450 meters. The animals fly with a partial second generation from mid-May to September. The species is widespread in Central Europe.

Way of life

The females of Astata boops lay their nests in the ground. It is about 10 centimeters deep and contains one to three cells arranged one behind the other, each separated with sand. There are also branched nests that contain up to 12 cells. Two to 15 larvae, rarely also imagines of stink bugs (Pentatomidae), are introduced into each cell . The males are good fliers and sit waiting near the nests. The species is parasitized by the pink gold wasp ( Hedychridium roseum ) .
