Astoria Bydgoszcz is a Polish basketball team that played in the top division Dominet Basket Liga between 2003 and 2006 and is based in Bydgoszcz .

history

The club was founded in 1924. The basketball department was founded in 1929. In 1971, Astoria took over the basketball team from Zawisza Bydgoszcz .

The 1988/1989 season was the most successful in the club's post-war history. Astoria rose to the Dominet Basket League . After only one season, they were relegated. In the following year, the rise succeeded. In the quarter-finals of the Polish championship Astoria failed at Śląsk Wrocław . The club qualified for the Korać Cup . After the season Astoria was withdrawn from the DBL for financial reasons. In the 2003/2004 season Astoria received a "Wild Card" for the Dominet Basket League. In the 2004/2005 season, the team took 5th place in the DBL.

For the 2005/2006 season Greg Davis was committed, who made his debut in the Polska Liga Koszykówki on October 15, 2005 in a game against Polonia Warsaw (65:79). He scored 18 points in that game and assisted six times (33:32). In 26 matches he spent exactly 31:19 minutes on the pitch (21 were among the top five). On average, he scored 14.9 points per game and was the team's first goalscorer in the 2005/2006 season. He scored the most points in the game Polonia against Astoria with 101: 109, which was played on January 8, 2006. He later moved to the Basketball Löwen Braunschweig .

For the 2006/2007 season, the club was not given a license for the highest Polish league due to a lack of financial security and had to be relegated to the third division. On May 18, 2007, the general assembly decided to dissolve the 83-year-old association for financial reasons. Zawisza Bydgoszcz took over the club's sports facilities . The name and tradition of the club was taken over from the school sports club of Gymnasium No. 26, whose basketball team played in the first division. In the 2018/2019 season Astoria won the championship of the 1st division and rose to the Energa Basket League .
