history

The association was founded in 1946. Initially, the club only played regional competitions. After the team had risen to a regional size, the club started under the name Zastal in 1967 in national competitions. The promotion to the highest Polish division was achieved in 1984. Zielona Góra played in the top division until 1996 and then again between 1998 and 2001. There were two relegations in a row and then a few years in the second Polish division, the first division. At the end of the 2010 season, the promotion to the highest league was again certain. In the 2010/11 season, Zastal narrowly missed the play-offs. In the 2011/12 season, the up-and-coming team made it into the semi-finals of the play-offs and thus qualified for the Eurocup. Just a year later, Zielona Góra became Polish champion for the first time. In the following 2013/14 season, Stelmet lost to Zielona Góra in the playoff final Turów Zgorzelec and was runner-up. The second Polish championship was celebrated in 2015, followed by the third championship in club history in 2016.
