Astrophytum asterias 'Superkabuto'

Astrophytum is a genus of plants fromthe cactus family (Cactaceae). The botanical name, translated "star plant", alludes to the star-shaped ribs of the plants of this genus that were first discovered.

description

The species of the genus Astrophytum usually grow individually with spherical to columnar, green shoots and reach heights of up to 1.5 meters. Often the shoots are densely covered with fine white tufts of hair, but sometimes they are completely bare. There are four to ten (rarely only three) very noticeable ribs that are not divided into cusps . The large areoles are close together, but do not merge. The thorns are very variable. Thorns may be present or completely absent.

The funnel-shaped, large flowers are yellow or yellow with a red throat. They appear at the apex of the shoots and open during the day. Your pericarpel is covered with pointed scales. The cap-shaped seeds have a diameter of up to 2.5 millimeters. Their brownish black seed coat is almost smooth. The edge is rolled up towards the sunken hilum .

The distribution area of the genus Astrophytum extends from south Texas to Mexico .

The genus was first described in 1839 by Charles Lemaire . The type species is Astrophytum myriostigma . The genus Astrophytum includes the following species:
