The Asuogyaman District is located in the Eastern Region of Ghana . Chief executive of the 664 km² district with 80,529 (2000) inhabitants is Emmanuel Ntow Bediako . The district capital is Atimpoku . The district was only formed in 1989 from the Kaoga district.
The Akosombo Dam , Ghana's most important hydroelectric power plant, is located in this district. Traditionally, the district is located on both sides of the Volta reservoir and is therefore an important trading point for inland shipping and trade. Also due to the tourist attraction of the Volta reservoir and the dam, a large number of tourists visit the district. The Adomi Bridge is one of the main routes between the two sides of the Volta . This bridge was built in 1956 and is the longest bridge in Ghana at 241.50 meters (805 feet).
In 1960 a census showed a population of 23,797 in what is now the district. In 1970 there were already 43,024 people in the district. 1984 55,827.

The Asuogyaman District consists of one constituency. In the constituency of Aburi-Nsawam, Magnus Opare-Asamoah was elected by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a direct candidate in the Ghanaian parliament .
