The Ataköy Athletics Arena ( Turkish Ataköy Atletizm Salonu ) is an athletics - sports hall in Istanbul district of Bakırköy .
The sports facility with 7,450 seats was specially built for the 2012 World Indoor Athletics Championships , which were held from March 9th to 11th. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the Sinan Erdem Dome multipurpose hall, which was inaugurated in 2009 .
The Ataköy Athletics Arena is the first athletics hall in Turkey. It is 125 meters long, 87 meters wide and 27 meters high and covers an area of 10,875 square meters. A six-lane running track with a length of 200 meters has been laid in the arena. There is also the eight-lane track for the 60-meter run . There are also facilities for the shot put , high and pole vault, as well as long and triple jump .
In the failed application of the city of Istanbul for the 2020 Summer Olympics , the Ataköy Athletics Arena was intended as a sports facility.
