Athos - In the Beyond This World is a German-Austrian documentary .

action

The film shows life in the Orthodox monastic republic of Athos . The permission to shoot the film is unclear as this is normally prohibited. The lives of a monk living alone and a poetic cook are depicted. You can also see a priestly ordination, the ceremony lasts six hours. A special feature is that the skulls of the deceased monks are dug up again after some time and kept in the ossuary . Every monk has a profession: doctor, icon painter, craftsman and much more. There are only a few developed roads on the 335 km². The locomotion happens on foot, mules and all-terrain vehicles are used for transport. The film was shot over three years.
