Atilla Kezek

Atilla Kezek (* 1956 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish vice admiral who was, among other things, commander in chief of the coast guard ( Türk Sahil Güvenlik Komutanlığı ) between 2008 and 2009 .

Life

Training and employment as a naval officer

After attending school, Kezek entered the Sea Cadet Institute ( Deniz Lisesi ), which he graduated in 1973. He then completed an officer training at the Naval School ( Deniz Harp Okulu ), which he finished in 1976 with the promotion to lieutenant at sea ( Teğmen ). It was then used on various ships and command posts of the Navy ( Türk Deniz Kuvetleri ) between 1976 and 1983 , before he graduated from the Naval Academy ( Deniz Harp Akademisi ) from 1983 to 1985 . He was then an operations officer on board the TCG Gelibolu (D-346) , a Cleaves-class destroyer , between 1985 and 1986 , and was then employed between 1986 and 1989 in the training regiment of the naval school, where he was initially the company commander of the 1st Company of the 1st Battalion and then commander of 2nd Battalion. During this time he also completed a course at the Academy of Armed Forces ( Silahlı Kuvetler Akademisi ) and was promoted to Korvettenkapitän ( Binbaşı ) in 1988 .

Kezek then moved to the embassy in France as a naval attaché in 1989 and worked there until 1991. After his return he served as an officer for organizational planning in the Naval Command South between 1991 and 1992 and successively as first officer of the frigate TCG Berk (D-358) and the gearing-class destroyer TCG Kılıçalipaşa (D349) from 1992 to 1993 . He then took over in 1993 the post of commander of the TCG Kılıçalipaşa (D349) and after his promotion to Commander ( Lt. Colonel ) in 1994 as commander of the frigate TCG Yavuz (F-240) , the on the Hamburg Blohm + Voss - shipyard built and on the seventh November 1985 launched the eponymous ship of the Yavuz class. This was followed in 1998 by Kezek's six-month assignment as an operational planning officer in the naval command and, between 1998 and 1999, as head of the operational planning department in the naval high command. In 1999 he was transferred back to the Fleet Command, where he held the post of General Secretary of the Fleet Command for two years until 2001. Thereupon he acted between 2001 and 2002 as commodore of the I. Destroyer Flotilla ( I. Muhrip Filotillası Komodorluğu ) and from 2002 to 2003 as head of the subdivision of operational organization planning in the high command of the Navy.

Promotion to Vice Admiral

On August 30, 2003, Kezek was promoted to Flotilla Admiral ( Tuğamiral ) and then held the post of commodore of the escort and patrol squadron ( Refakat ve Karakol Filosu Komutanlığı ) as the successor to Flotilla Admiral Bülent Bostanoğlu between 2003 and 2004 , before becoming commander from 2004 to 2007 of the naval base Gölcük ( Gölcük Ana Üs Komutanlığı ) was.

After his promotion to Rear Admiral ( Tümamiral ) on August 30, 2007, Kezek was head of the Monitoring and Evaluation Department in the Navy High Command between 2007 and 2008. As the successor to Rear Admiral Can Erenoğlu he was on August 12, 2008 Commander in Chief of the Coast Guard ( Türk Sahil Güvenlik Komutanlığı ) and held this position until his replacement by Rear Admiral İzzet Artunç on August 7, 2009. He then became Commander of the Miners' Associations ( Mayın Filosu Komutanlığı ).

Kezek was later promoted to Vice Admiral ( Koramiral ) and served as Chief of Staff in the Navy. On October 9, 2013, he resigned from this position because of the convictions in the course of the so-called Balyoz trial, an alleged coup plan by the Turkish armed forces against the 58th government of the Republic of Turkey, which was in office from November 18, 2002 to March 14, 2003 . Together with him, the head of the technical department in the High Command of the Navy Rear Admiral Sami Örgüç resigned.

Atilla Kezek is married and has one child.
