The Ato Boldon Stadium is a stadium with an athletics facility in Couva in the island state of Trinidad and Tobago . The stadium, built in 2001, has a capacity of 10,000 seats. The stadium is the home ground of the Central FC football club
history
The Ato Boldon Stadium was built for the U-17 World Cup . It is named after the athlete Ato Boldon , who became world champion in the 200-meter run at the 1997 World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg . In September 2010, the Ato Boldon Stadium hosted the Women's U-17 World Cup . Six preliminary round matches as well as a quarter-final and a semi-final were played in the stadium.
On June 16, 2011 the “home game” of Montserrat against Belize took place here as part of the qualification for the 2014 World Cup . 100 spectators saw a 2-5 defeat of Montserrat. As part of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup , the stadium hosted an international match between the Trinidadian national soccer team and the United States .
