Life

Ato Muchamedschanow was born in Stalinabad , then part of the Soviet Union , where he also grew up. His father died early, so his mother raised him and his brother alone. After he finished his school education in 1957, he started working as a theater actor. In 1959 he applied to the Institute for Theater and Art in Tashkent , but was not accepted. Muchamedschanow worked for years as a theater actor until he finally worked for the well-known film studio Tajikfilm from 1970 . He had his first role as an actor there in 1975 in the film "Tot stanjet wsjem" by Tachir Sagibow .

In the following years he was engaged for numerous other films, most of which remained unknown outside the Soviet Union. The 1982 film Der Wunderdoktor with Muchamedschanow in one of the leading roles was shown a few years later in the GDR . After the end of the Soviet Union, he had only a few film roles, partly due to political unrest in his now independent homeland of Tajikistan. The 1999 film Luna Papa by Bakhtijor Chudoinasarov was supposed to be his last film appearance. It was through this German-Russian co-production that Muchamedschanow first came into contact with western filmmakers such as Moritz Bleibtreu . He finally died in Isfara in 2002 at the age of 62 .
