Atoconeura is a genus of dragonflies consisting of six species. The genus belongs to the subfamily Trithemistinae and wasdescribedby Ferdinand Karsch in 1899 . Ananimal of the previously unknown species Atoconeura biodinata from Tanganyika servedas the generotype . The distribution area extends over the mountain regions of East and West Africa .

features

Atoconeura species are comparatively large, glossy black dragonflies with yellow spots. In particular, the yellow spot on the seventh segment of the abdomen ( abdomen ) is usually noticeable and a good distinguishing criterion for the genus in the region. However, the stain is also partially dusted. The structure of this and other spots is also a good way of distinguishing the species. The hind wings reach lengths between 28 and 38 millimeters.

Habitat

The adults of the genus Atoconeura occur along rivers in forested mountain regions. Depending on the species, the height spectrum ranges from almost 700 meters to 3000 meters.

behavior

The males mainly settle on branches and stones above or along smaller streams. The reproductive behavior, however, is still largely unknown and only cursory observations exist.

Systematics

After a revision of the genus in 2006, the following species of the genus are distinguished:
