The Attic timeless ( Colchicum atticum ) is a species of the timeless genus ( Colchicum ) in the timeless family (Colchicaceae).
features
The Attic timeless is a perennial bulbous plant that reaches heights of 3 to 6 centimeters. The tubers are erect and ovoid. Most of the 4, rarely 2 to 6 leaves are ciliate or rough at the bottom. They are short at flowering time, later they reach 18 × 0.3 to 0.8 centimeters. The 3 to 5 (rarely 1 to 6) flowers are white to purple. The tepals measure 15 to 27 × 2 to 5 millimeters and usually have no ears.
The flowering period extends from March to April.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 54.
Occurrence
The Attic timeless occurs in Greece, in the Aegean Sea, southern Bulgaria and western and central Turkey on overgrazed limestone slopes, slate-gravel slopes and open pine forests at altitudes of 100 to 2000 meters.
