geography

The place is on the edge of the Haßberge Nature Park . The Kleine Haßberg (426 m above sea level) is located south of the village.

history

750-450 BC The area around Aub was demonstrably inhabited. Not far from the village, in the Himmelreich forest section, there are 140 burial mounds from the Hallstatt period on an area of five hectares .

In 1302 Count Konrad von Wildberg bequeathed the tithe on Hassberg to the "ecclesiae S. Petri in villa Owe" (Aub). In the following years Aub was also a Henneberg fiefdom . The place name is derived from "In der Au", popularly "In D'r A", so that the place is henceforth called "Dra" by the people. Due to two inheritance divisions in the county of Henneberg -Schleusingen in 1347 and 1353, the places around Königshofen fell to Count Eberhard II of Württemberg . He sold it to the Würzburg monastery in 1354 . Since then, Aub has been part of the Königshofen office in Würzburg , which was temporarily pledged to the Henneberg-Aschach line in the 15th century. In 1744, Prince-Bishop Friedrich Karl von Schönborn granted the community brewing rights.

In 1803 Aub was secularized in favor of Bavaria , then in the Peace of Pressburg in 1805 Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany was given to form the Grand Duchy of Würzburg , with which it finally fell to Bavaria in 1814 . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, the former municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 . In 1950 a land consolidation was carried out, in 1969 the village community center was built and from 1971 onwards tourism was coordinated by its own association. In 1976 a landscape lake with 1.1 hectares of water was built. On May 1, 1978, Aub was incorporated into the town of Bad Königshofen in Grabfeld.

In 1863 the construction of the current church, consecrated to the apostles Peter and Paul, began. In 1908 the Aub Chaplaincy was re-established and a rectory was built.
