Autbert from Cambrai
Autbert (Aubert) von Cambrai (* around 600 ; † December 13, 669 in Cambrai ) is a saint of the Roman Catholic Church , he was Bishop of Arras and Cambrai .
Life
Autbert was related to King Dagobert I (around 608 - 639). During his time at his court he devoted himself to missionary work and campaigned for the monasteries in Flanders . According to some reports, Autbert became a monk in the Luxeuil monastery . In 633 he was appointed bishop of Arras and Cambrai and died there on December 13, 669. He was instrumental in founding monasteries in Arras , Lobbes , Wallers and Crespin . Before he found his final resting place on January 24, 1015 in the church of St-Géry-et-Aubert in Cambrai, around 950 some relics , with a subsequent reliquary dispute, were brought to Magdeburg .
Adoration
St. Autbert is the patron saint of bakers , which is why he is also represented as a baker or bishop. As accessories he receives a miter , crook , book and bread . The breads refer to the legend according to which he is said to have baked bread himself in the monastery during a famine. He loaded this onto a donkey , which is said to have brought it into town by himself . His most famous student was St. Landelin from Crespin . About 13 km east of Cambrai is the small town of Saint-Aubert .
