Major Aubrey Leland Oakes Buxton, Baron Buxton of Alsa KCVO , MC , DL , (born July 15, 1918 in Oxford , Oxfordshire ; † September 1, 2009 ) was a British author , television producer and politician ( Conservative Party ).

life and career

The son of Leland William Wilberforce Buxton and Ada Mary Oakes was educated at Ampleforth College in Yorkshire and Trinity College in Cambridge . Buxton served in the Royal Artillery during World War II and was awarded the Military Cross in 1943. In Arakan ( Burma used), he had to watch the birds living there during the war occasion on which he published a book after the war. Another book by Buxton deals with the sporting achievements of King George VI, who died shortly before .

From 1958 to 1988 he was director of the regional television program Anglia Television (now ITV Anglia ) in the East of England region . There he produced the nature documentary series Survival (from 1961), in which he also stood in front of the camera. The series ran for 40 years, was also adopted by foreign television programs and received numerous awards. In the 1960s he was vice chairman of the British WWF .

1964 Buxton Extra Equerry with Philip Mountbatten, Duke of Edinburgh and 1972 High Sheriff of Essex . In 1975 he was then Deputy Lieutenant of Essex and remained so until 1985. On May 11, 1978 he was appointed Life Peer with the title Baron Buxton of Alsa, of Stiffkey in the County of Norfolk .
