Aubrey de Vere (knight)

Sir Aubrey de Vere († February 20, 1462 ) was an English knight .

Life

Sir Aubrey was the eldest son of John de Vere, 12th Earl of Oxford and Elizabeth Howard.

Like his father, he was an uncompromising supporter of the House of Lancaster and fought during the Wars of the Roses at the Second Battle of St Albans (1461) and probably also at Towton (1461).

Sir Aubrey, along with his father and other Lancastrians such as Sir William Tyrell of Beeches , was arrested in February 1462, taken to the Tower of London and sentenced to death for high treason . The chair was John Tiptoft, 1st Earl of Worcester, known for his cruelty .

Sir Aubrey was beheaded on Tower Hill on February 20, 1462 . His younger brother John then inherited the title of Earl of Oxford .

Marriage and offspring

Sir Aubrey was married to Anne, daughter of Humphrey Stafford, 1st Duke of Buckingham

The couple had no offspring.
