course

The nearly 900 meter long street begins in the north on Park Avenue and initially leads south and about halfway towards the southwest, where it finally ends at the southern course of Oak Ridge Drive . The southern section of Oak Ridge Drive runs in a north-south direction between Oaksedge Drive to the north and Kimball Avenue to the south.

In addition, Audubon Drive (from north to south) meets the northern course of Oak Ridge Drive (which connects to and ends at Cherry Road, which runs parallel to the east), Haverhill Road , which only exists between Audubon Drive and Cherry Road, as well as the Oaksedge Drive , which is just 150 meters to the west goes into a curve in the aforementioned Oak Ridge Drive.

Elvis Presley's first estate

Audubon Drive is a tranquil residential street in the middle of a quiet and upscale residential area. Restlessness and hectic activities only occurred in 1956/57.

Because with a purchase contract dated March 5, 1956, the then 21-year-old Elvis Presley acquired property number 1034, which was also his first property. 35 ° 6 ′ 13 ″ N, 89 ° 55 ′ 13 ″ W The property is located near the Presley family's previous home and last rental home at 1414 Getwell Road.

The house, built in 1954 and in which Elvis Presley lived with his parents for a year, is almost in the geographical center of the street; in the section between the northern course of Oak Ridge Drive , Haverhill Road and Cherry Road . Presley's presence ensured that the previously quiet and rather hidden street soon became known nationwide and attracted a lot of onlookers and fans.

The property, which was open on all sides, soon turned out to be unsuitable because there was no protection from the increasing number of pilgrims and therefore did not guarantee the necessary privacy. This fact proved to be of little benefit to both the Presleys themselves and the neighbors. The area was constantly populated, and soon some particularly resilient fans began camping on the lawn in front of Presley's house. Therefore, his parents preferred to spend the time in Hollywood , while their son Elvis completed the shooting of his second film Loving You there .

After returning from Hollywood in March 1957, the Presleys looked for a more suitable property and found it a few days later in Graceland , which is about twelve kilometers as the crow flies southwest of Audubon Drive.

The property on Audubon Drive has changed hands about eight times since then. First, Ruth Brown Moore, who had sold Presley Graceland, moved in, with the move to the property on Audubon Drive being part of her agreement in the purchase agreement.

The property last changed hands in July 2006 for one million dollars. The buyer was the music publisher Mike Curb , who among other things owns the RCA Studio B in Nashville , where Elvis Presley recorded some songs.
