action

The story of the doctor Dr. Richard Kimble, wrongly charged with the murder of his wife Helen. Although he protests his innocence, he is found guilty and sentenced to death. Kimble manages to escape on a prisoner transport, relentlessly pursued by the police lieutenant Philip Gerard, who handled the murder case, brought Kimble to justice and is convinced of his guilt. For his part, Kimble is now on the hunt for the real murderer, a one-armed man whom he saw fleeing the house when he came home to find his wife dead.

Kimble's escape leads across America. He never comes to rest, he cannot trust anyone, and he always lives in fear of being discovered. Because Kimble constantly has to use new identities in order not to be recognized. And in addition to the support of friends, Kimble also meets strangers again and again, who help him in his adventurous search for the one-armed man. At one of the many stops on his escape, Kimble finally learns the one-armed man's name. In fact, Kimble is quite often on the trail of suspect Fred Johnson very closely. In the final episode of the series, after a dramatic climax, Kimble's four long years of escape finally come to an end. And Richard Kimble is finally allowed to leave the courtroom as a free man.

background

The series takes the real criminal case of the medical doctor Sam Sheppard , who may have been wrongly convicted of the murder of his wife, as a model. It was very successful both nationally and internationally and made David Janssen world famous. When the last episode in which Kimble finally pinpoints the real culprit was broadcast in the USA on August 29, 1967, the audience rating was an impressive 71%.

At the time, Gerard actor Barry Morse received many correspondence from fans who could not distinguish between fiction and reality, in which he was insulted and asked to call Dr. Leave Kimble alone.

DVD release

The series was released on DVD in 2013 by Weltbild as a complete box, whereby 45 of the 120 episodes contained are only available in the original language with German subtitles, as these were not broadcast in Germany and therefore not dubbed.
