Aufseßhöflein

The Aufseßhöflein in Bamberg , a town in the Bavarian administrative district of Upper Franconia , was built between 1723 and 1728. The former pleasure palace is a protected architectural monument .

history

The baroque garden seat was built by Johann Dientzenhofer for Philipp Friedrich von Aufseß (1691–1743) on the site of a previous building that was then still surrounded by lakes. An expensive interior in the Rococo style created financial bottlenecks, which led to a gradual decline from around 1760. First leased to former servants of the Aufseß and devastated in the Napoleonic Wars , it was sold to a gardener family in 1839. The property was used for agriculture, the ponds were drained, the hall to the hayloft and chicken coop. In the 19th and 20th centuries, railway tracks were run close to the property, and around 1941 a planned demolition in favor of expanding the line caused protests among the population. When it was added to the list of monuments in 1953, the property was no longer "to be saved as a monument without a very significant financial investment (...)". Around 2000 the last descendant of the gardener had to leave the building, which had been neglected for decades. This was followed by an emergency backup and several unsuccessful attempts at rescue before the property was restored in an exemplary manner by new owners between 2012 and 2015.

On November 30, 2015, the Bavarian Prime Minister Horst Seehofer awarded the owner family the special prize of the Federal Prize for Crafts in Monument Preservation .

The castle has been open to the public since it was renovated. Cultural events and weddings take place regularly in the ballroom.

description

The two-storey mansard roof structure rises above a basement with round windows. The piano nobile with seven to four window axes has an only slightly advanced risalit on the long side . Corner pilaster strips , cornices and window frames made of natural stone give the plastered construction its special character. The splendid rooms are stuccoed in the Rococo style with bands and bird motifs on the ceiling and walls. With the repair, a representative two-flight flight of stairs was added.
