Life

Bramm was born in Giessen as the son of the baker and innkeeper Johann Bramm and his second wife Maria, née Launspach. From 1847 he studied law in his hometown and became a member of the Corps Teutonia there . In 1862 he joined the Hessian judicial service as court clerk. In 1865 he became a district judge in Gießen, and in 1874 a district judge in Friedberg. From 1875 he was the first professional mayor of Gießen. In 1888 he was appointed Lord Mayor.

Bramm initiated important urban development measures, such as the expansion of the road network and the improvement of urban hygiene. To reduce the risk of epidemics , a spring water pipe was built into the city during his time in office . He also laid the foundation for the expansion of the city to the east beyond the Anlagenring, where a new city quarter rose along Bismarckstrasse and Ludwigstrasse.
