August Christian Demelius († March 21, 1773 in Sangerhausen ) was an electoral Saxon mountain official, physician and local politician. He was the mountain bailiff , mayor and doctor in the official city of Sangerhausen.

Life

Demelius' ancestors come from the mountain town of Schlettau in the Saxon Ore Mountains , where they called themselves Döhmel or something similar. After finishing school, August Christian Demelius obtained his licentiate . In 1748 he became a physician in the Electoral Saxon town of Sangerhausen, which had a great boom in the 18th century thanks to income from mining. In this capacity he was elected mayor. He was also head of the monastery, general co-inspector and city treasurer.

After the previous mountain bailiff in Sangerhausen, Johann Friedrich Klemm, died in 1770, the mayor Lic. August Christian Demelius was also given the office of mountain bailiff with the approval of the elector Friedrich August von Sachsen. To this end, he took his oath of service in the presence of the mountain bailiff of Thuringia in the copper works in front of Sangerhausen. As mountain bailiff he was responsible for compliance with the electoral mountain shelf in Sangerhausen and the supervision of the trade union mining office in Sangerhausen. However, Demelius could only exercise the office of mountain bailiff for a relatively short time, because he suffered a stroke in the winter of 1773, of which he died on March 21, 1773.

His son Johann August Christian Demelius attended the Princely School in Pforta from 1778 .
