Adam Zephelius

Adam Zephelius also Adamus Zephel (born January 6, 1586 in Falkenau , † February 7, 1642 in Reichenbach ) was a Lutheran theologian, master's degree and pastor.

Life

Adam Zephelius was the son of the town clerk of Falkenau Kilian Zephelius and his wife Elisabeth geb. Loewitz. At the age of 13 he was a student at the Latin School in Schlaggenwald . In 1604 he enrolled at the University of Leipzig and on April 27, 1605 at the University of Wittenberg . On October 1st, 1606, he was appointed pastor in the mountain town of Frühbuss by the landlord Niklas von Globen . In the local parsonage he wrote three theological works between 1607 and 1610. In 1617 he was pastor in Saar near Duppau . At the time of the Counter-Reformation he was expelled from there and first went to the Saxon town of Annaberg , where he is mentioned with his family from 1627 to 1628 and at times was even forced to accept alms from the church for himself and his family.

In 1628 he became pastor in Reichenbach near Königsbrück in Upper Lusatia , where he was referred to as a “loyal and well-deserved pastor”. He died there on February 7, 1641 at the age of 55 and was solemnly buried on February 10, 1641.
