August Closs
August Closs (born August 9, 1898 in Neumarkt in Styria , † June 21, 1990 in Bristol ) was an Austrian literary scholar .
After he had moved to Bristol in 1924, Closs received in 1931 a professor of German literature at the local university , where he remained until 1964th He was also visiting professor in Canada, the USA, India, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands. Closs was a co-founder of the city partnership between Hanover and Bristol, which was concluded in 1947 and was considered a sponsor of the same until his death. For his services in this area, he was made an honorary citizen of the TH Hannover (1950) and the University of Bristol (1989), holder of the Hanover city plaque (1962), holder of the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (1964) and an honorary citizen of the city of Hanover (1987).
