August Dimitz

August Dimitz (born August 16, 1827 in Laibach ; † December 10, 1886 there ) was an Austrian historian , publicist and editor .

August Dimitz was born as the son of the Imperial and Royal Billing Councilor Franz Dimitz and his wife in the then mixed-language Carniolan capital of Ljubljana (today Ljubljana in Slovenia ). At his birth, he spent his childhood and youth, where he went through elementary school and graduated from the Lyceum . In 1845 he moved to Vienna and began studying law at the university .

In the revolutionary year of 1848 Dimitz took part in the Academic Legion in the revolution of 1848/49 in the Austrian Empire .

After completing his studies, Dimitz returned to his homeland in 1850 and began his professional career as a lawyer at the kk district court in Ljubljana. However, he soon changed jobs and worked for the kk finance directorate for the Crown Land of Carniola; initially as a financial clerk , later as chief finance officer. After his appointment as head of office in 1880, he headed this institution as finance director until his death.

The forester and writer Ludwig Dimitz (1842–1912) was his brother.
