August Eberhard

August Eberhard (born August 26, 1941 in Theißenegg , Wolfsberg municipality ; † March 1, 2016 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and a technical college teacher. From 1989 to 1995 he was a member of the Federal Council and from 1995 to 2004 a member of the Carinthian state parliament .

Education and functions

Eberhard was born in Theißenegg in the Wolfsberg community . He attended elementary school from 1948 to 1955 and then graduated from agricultural vocational school from 1955 to 1958. In 1960 he continued his training at the Federal College for Alpine Agriculture in Raumberg , where he passed his Matura in 1964 . In 1968 he passed the qualifying examination for the agricultural teaching and promotion service after he had done his military service from 1966 to 1967. Eberhard was employed as a teacher at an agricultural vocational school from 1964 to 1969. He took over the management from 1969 to 1976 and worked as a technical school teacher from 1976. From 1987 he was again representative of the technical college. He was given the professional title of teacher .

Politics and functions

Eberhard was active in the local politics of the community Wolfsberg, where he began his political career as mayor of the community Waldenstein . He was in charge of the Waldenstein community, which was incorporated into Wolfsberg in 1973, from 1970 to 1972. From 1973 on he was a member of the Wolfsberg municipal council and from 1979 to 1990 he was a city councilor. Most recently, Eberhard was a member of the Committee on Finance and Sports Matters. From April 21, 1989 to October 24, 1995 he was a member of the Austrian Federal Council, after which he moved to the Carinthian state parliament on October 25, 1995 for Herwig Hofer , to which he was a member until 2004. Within the party, Eberhard was the local party chairman of the ÖVP Waldenstein from 1968, and in 1988 he was elected district party chairman of the ÖVP Wolfsberg. From 1992 he was chairman of section 27 (Carinthian agriculture teachers) of the public service union and from 1989 chairman of the service committee and central committee of Carinthian agriculture teachers.
