Herwig Hofer

Herwig Hofer (born September 24, 1940 in Sankt Veit an der Glan , Carinthia ; † October 9, 2013 in Klagenfurt , Carinthia) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

After attending elementary school and a secondary school in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee , Herwig Hofer studied law at the University of Graz . He received his doctorate in 1965 .

After his military service and a year of court practice , Hofer became specialist group secretary in the Carinthian Chamber of Commerce at the end of 1966 . After intermediate positions - among other things he was district office secretary for the Klagenfurt-Land district from 1985 to 1988 - he headed the transport policy department in the Carinthian Chamber of Commerce from 1988 to 1996.

Herwig Hofer's political career began in 1973 when he moved into the city government of St. Veit an der Glan as economic councilor. In June 1979 Hofer was sworn in as a member of the Federal Council in Vienna , to which, however, he was only to be a member for four months, until October 1979. Then he went back to St. Veit, where he was sworn in as a simple councilor . It was then until 1985.

Also in 1979 Hofer moved into the Carinthian state parliament as a VP deputy . He was a member of the state parliament for 17 years until 1996; from 1994 to 1995 he acted as club chairman (parliamentary group chairman) of his party.

Within his party, Hofer acted as district party chairman for the district of Sankt Veit an der Glan from 1984 to 1995 .
