August Egger (born June 27, 1875 in Waldkirch ; † December 16, 1954 in Zurich ) was a Swiss lawyer and university professor .

Live and act

August Egger was the son of the businessman Johann August Egger and the painter Sophie Looser. He studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , the University of Leipzig , the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin and the University of Bern . In Bern, he received his doctorate in 1900 at Eugen Huber Dr. iur. and then completed his habilitation at the Friedrich Wilhlems University in Berlin with a thesis on asset liability and mortgage under Franconian law . In 1904 he was appointed professor for Swiss civil law at the University of Zurich . In this position he taught until his age-related retirement in 1944. From 1912 to 1914 he was rector of the university. From 1905 to 1923 August Egger was also a substitute judge and member of the Zurich Court of Cassation . August Egger published fundamental comments on the Swiss Civil Code , in particular on personal and family law . Last but not least, his contributions to labor law were recognized by trade unions.

The estate of August Egger is located in the Central Library Zurich .
