August Hermann Leugers-Scherzberg , b. Leugers (born April 15, 1958 in Freren , Emsland ) is a German historian .

Life

Leugers-Scherzberg has been publishing the theologie.geschichte magazine with Lucia Scherzberg since 2005 . Since the winter semester 2010/11 he has been acting as a substitute for the history of church and theology at Saarland University .

Scientific career

Leugers-Scherzberg studied education, history and Catholic theology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. In 1990 he received his doctorate in Münster with a dissertation on the central politician Felix Porsch . Between 1984 and 1993, Leugers-Scherzberg initially worked as a research assistant at the Department of Middle and Modern Church History at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Münster and later as a research assistant in history at the University of Essen . From 1993 to 1996 he was a fellow of the German Research Foundation . He completed his habilitation in 2001 with The Changes of Herbert Wehner. From the Popular Front to the Grand Coalition in Modern History at the University of Essen. Leugers-Scherzberg was the first scientist to have unrestricted access to the estate of the SPD politician Herbert Wehner .

Research priorities

Leugers-Scherzberg's scientific focal points include political Catholicism , Herbert Wehner and the history of the SPD after 1945 as well as the history of churches and orders in the 20th century. In the DFG project Catholic Mission Schools in Germany 1887-1941 , he worked in particular on the development of possible uses of databases in research on church and educational history.
