August Haefeli

August Haefeli (* 29. January 1887 in Leuzigen ; † 5. June 1960 in Thun ) was a Swiss aircraft design engineer .

Life

August Haefeli was born in 1887 as the son of the court clerk Emil Haefeli and Marie Haefeli-Bärtschi. After moving to Mümliswil , he attended school in Balsthal . He then studied mechanical engineering at the Burgdorf technical center .

From 1912 to 1915 he worked as an engineer in Paris and Berlin at the Gustav Otto aero works . From 1915 to 1929 he was chief designer and head of the aircraft construction department at the Eidgenössische Konstruktionswerkstätte Thun. Under his leadership, the military aircraft double - fuselage DH-1 , long-fuselage DH-2, DH-3 , DH-4, DH-5 and MA-7 were developed. From 1929 to 1947 he was an engineer in Oberdiessbach at Maschinenfabrik Vogt and in Villeneuve (VD) at Construction mécanique. He then worked as a freelance engineer in Thun until 1960.
