August Heinrich Fasch

Augustin Heinrich Fasch (born February 17, 1639 in Arnstadt , † January 24, 1690 in Jena ) was a German physician and botanist.

Life

August Heinrich was the son of the Arnstadt archdeacon Augustin Fasch (born August 8, 1599 in Hauteroda; † August 15, 1661 in Arnstadt) and his wife Margaretha Eckold (born April 1608 in Ohrdruf; born July 26, 1663 in Arnstadt). August Heinrich was baptized on February 17, 1639. He attended school and high school in his hometown. He began studying medicine at the University of Jena on March 14, 1659 . After laying the foundations at the philosophical faculty, he attended the medical lectures by Werner Rolfinck , Gottfried Möbius , Johann Theodor Schenck and Johann Arnold Friderici . In the winter semester of 1664 he obtained a licentiate in medicine and became a doctor in Jena. Here he received his doctorate in medicine on January 2, 1667 and participated in the lectures at the Jena University.

On January 29, 1673 he became an associate professor at the medical faculty and received the title of personal physician in Saxony-Weimar . After the death of Werner Rolfink, he was promoted to the full professorship of anatomy, surgery and botany in September 1673. He established himself as a specialist in obstetrics, gained a reputation as an anatomist through his surgical and anatomical operations and knew how to pass on his knowledge of botany with great skill. However, he did not write his own medical treatises. Nevertheless, over 50 works contain his name, which are primarily in the context of his university teaching activities. In addition, Fasch also took part in the organizational tasks of the Salana. He was dean of the medical faculty several times and was rector of the alma mater in the winter semesters 1676, 1682 and 1688 .
