August Herzig

August Albert Theodor Herzig (born August 3, 1846 in Hamburg , † July 11, 1919 in Dresden ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Herzig's artistic talents were recognized at an early stage and so he began studying at the Hamburg trade school around 1865. From 1872 to 1875 he studied at the Dresden Art Academy with Ernst Julius Hähnel and Johannes Schilling . He was a master student with Schilling. After completing his studies, he worked in Ernst Hähnel's studio in Dresden before moving to northern Germany . But at the end of 1880 he returned to Dresden and worked as a freelancer in his own studio. In addition to sculptures made of bronze, marble and sandstone, he created small sculptures in porcelain , bronze and stone .
