Live and act

Klipstein studied art history; In 1911 he went on a study trip with Le Corbusier . He wrote his dissertation (1916) on the persistence of the Gothic view of art and Gothic relapses in the development of the Renaissance of the Italian Quattrocento .

With Richard Gutekunst, the son of the graphic dealer HG Gutekunst in Stuttgart, he founded the Gutekunst und Klipstein company in Bern in 1919 , which specialized in modern graphics . Hildebrand Gurlitt was one of his customers . In a secret campaign in 1939, Klipstein and Hildebrand Gurlitt brought several paintings by Wassili Kandinsky to the United States, which had been confiscated by the National Socialists as " degenerate art ".

When Eberhard W. Kornfeld joined the company, it was called Kornfeld und Klipstein ; After Klipstein's death in 1951, Eberhard W. Kornfeld took over the company, which from then on operated as Galerie Kornfeld .

Klipstein compiled a directory of Käthe Kollwitz's graphic works for the years 1890 to 1912 using Johannes Sievers' catalog of works published in 1913.
