August Knemeyer

August Knemeyer (born August 4, 1928 in Laer , Iburg district ; † October 7, 2011 there ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament .

Life

After attending elementary school in Laer and secondary school in Dissen am Teutoburger Wald , Knemeyer completed sixteen months of military service and, when he was not yet 15, was a prisoner of war for six months . He completed an apprenticeship as a watchmaker in his father's shop, as well as an apprenticeship as an optician and moved to Frankfurt, the Ruhr area, Munich and Berlin as part of his journeyman hike . He passed a master's examination as a watchmaker, attended the Berlin technical college for optics and graduated there as a state-certified optician and master optician. He took over the family business from his father in 1960. In the same year he joined the CDU and in 1961 became a member of the council and mayor of the municipality of Laer. In 1964 he was elected to the district council, where in 1968 he took over the chairmanship of the CDU parliamentary group for the Osnabrück district . He was a leading member of various organizations, including the administrative board of the Kreissparkasse Osnabrück , the board of the general local health insurance fund Osnabrück-Land and the water supply association Osnabrück-Süd.

Knemeyer was a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament from June 21, 1974 to June 20, 1990 (8th to 11th electoral term).

He was married and had three children.
