August Michaelis
August Karl Arnold Michaelis (born December 26, 1847 in Bierbergen , Kingdom of Hanover (today Hohenhameln ), † January 31, 1916 in Rostock ) was a German chemist.
Life
Michaelis studied chemistry at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and the University of Jena . With a thesis on Johann Georg Anton Geuther he became 1870 in Goettingen to the Dr. phil. PhD . After his habilitation at the TH Karlsruhe , he was initially a private lecturer and then from 1880 first professor for organic chemistry at the Technical University of Aachen . The Academic Association of Chemists and Metalworkers at the Aachen Polytechnic , later the Corps Montania Aachen, made him an honorary member in 1881. In 1890 he changed to the chair at the University of Rostock . His field of work was in particular the chemistry of organic phosphorus compounds, to which he made fundamental contributions.
