August Munckel

Karl August Ludwig Munckel (born January 23, 1837 in Pyritz , † April 10, 1903 in Berlin ) was a lawyer and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Munckel attended Berlin University at the age of 15, where he studied law for three years. He became an auscultator in 1855, a trainee lawyer in 1857 and a court assessor in 1860. In 1864 he settled in Berlin as a lawyer and notary. Munckel stood out particularly as a defense attorney in criminal matters, especially in political trials.

In 1881 he was elected to the Reichstag, to which he belonged until 1903. From 1882 to 1903 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives , in which he represented the constituency of Berlin 4. From 1888 he was also a member of the Brandenburg Provincial Parliament . He exercised all mandates until his death. From 1882 to 1894 he was city councilor of Charlottenburg and in 1896 he became city councilor in Berlin.

Munckel first joined the German Liberal Party , then in 1893 the Liberal People's Party . He was mainly involved in legal issues, such as the application for compensation for innocent convicts.

August Munckel died in Berlin in 1903 at the age of 66. He found his final resting place in the Old Twelve Apostles Cemetery in Schöneberg near Berlin. The grave has not been preserved.
