August Roeseler
August Roeseler (also Röseler, born May 1, 1866 in Hamburg ; † 1934 in Munich ) was a German painter, draftsman, etcher and caricaturist , known as the "dachshund painter ".
Roeseler studied from October 15, 1884 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with Wilhelm von Lindenschmit the Younger . After graduating, he mainly worked as an illustrator and caricaturist in Munich.
He provided illustrations and caricatures for the " Fliegende Blätter ", " Jugend " and " Simplicissimus ". His works were dedicated to the Munich petty bourgeoisie. Dogs often appeared in his works, especially dachshunds, which earned him the nickname “dachshund painter”.
In addition, Roeseler dealt with easel painting and poster art.
