Sierra Blanca is a census-designated place and county seat of Hudspeth County in the US state of Texas .

history

The place was founded in 1881 with the construction of a railroad line from the Southern Pacific through West Texas. It was not until 1914 that Sierra Blanca could have more than 350 inhabitants. The name comes from the north-western Sierra Blanca Mountain .

Between 1992 and 2001, the New Yorkers dumped their sewage sludge here .

location

Sierra Blanca is northeast of the Mexican border , just off Interstate 10 . It is located approximately 53 kilometers west of the town of Van Horn and 141 kilometers southeast of El Paso .

population

According to the 2010 census , Sierra Blanca currently has 553 people in 172 households. Hispanics make up the largest proportion with 73%. The average age is 45.9 years, which is significantly higher than the average for all of Texas (34.3 years). In 2015, the median annual income per household was around $ 47,360, below the Texas-wide mean.
