August Steinbrink

August Steinbrink (born June 3, 1920 in Heiligenhaus ; † June 10, 2018 ibid.) Was a German industrial clerk who made a name for himself in homeland maintenance , Franco-German relations and nature conservation .

Steinbrink was born in the Heiligenhauser Honschaft Hasselbeck and lived in the city all his life. During World War II he was a soldier on the western and eastern fronts from 1940 to 1945 and later campaigned for reconciliation with the former war enemies England and France and for the work of the German War Graves Commission . After his release from captivity, he worked for a local company in the lock and fittings industry for 46 years. Steinbrink was married to Ingrid Steinbrink for 63 years and the couple have a son.

From 1945 to 1947 he reorganized the YMCA on site. Steinbrink wrote an autobiographical home chronicle, which was self-published as a book in 1998. He wrote articles & a. for local newspapers, was regarded as the home chronicle of his time and held many honorary positions in the Protestant church and in associations (including being the first chairman of the history association for 16 years). A special interest was the maintenance of the regional dialect Heljenser Platt. Steinbrink, who spoke fluent English and French, was involved in the German-French town twinning between Heiligenhaus and Meaux .

Steinbrink dedicated himself to beekeeping and the protection of insects for 60 years . For this he received numerous awards from the German Beekeeping Association .
