August Wilhelm Knoch

August Wilhelm Knoch (born June 8, 1742 in Braunschweig ; † June 2, 1818 there ) was a German natural scientist and professor of physics at the Collegium Carolinum .

Life

Knoch, the son of the Brunswick court preacher Georg Knoch, completed a theology degree in Leipzig with honors and then worked in Brunswick as a private tutor to Privy Councilor v. Hoym. In 1775 he was initially employed as a caretaker at the Carolinum, which gave him the opportunity to devote himself to his inclination to the natural sciences in more detail.

Knoch worked in the field of entomology and his precise observations resulted in the three-volume work Contributions to the History of Insects , published from 1781 to 1783 . In 1789 he was appointed professor of physics. His work New Contributions to Entomology appeared in 1801.
