Life

Auguste Kladzig was the daughter of a Weimar surgeon. She was a talented artist, to whom Goethe himself would have assigned the role of "Gretchen" at the first performance of Faust . Johann Peter Eckermann , who fell in love with the then 16-year-old at the age of 34, dedicated his love poems to her.

On March 24, 1833, she married Karl von La Roche in Berlin . His daughter Amalie was also a singer. Her son Heinrich served in the Austrian Navy and died after long suffering in May 1872 at the age of 38.
