Johann Carl August La Roche , from 1873 Knight of La Roche , also Karl von La Roche (born October 12, 1794 in Berlin , † March 11, 1884 in Vienna ) was a German-Austrian actor . He should not be confused with Carl Georg von La Roche (1766–1839), the son of the writer Sophie von La Roche .

origin

Carl von La Roche's father was a police inspector in Berlin, but later he was the valet of the (Minister?) Von der Schulenburg . His mother was Anne Susanne Belitz († 1814), a daughter of the innkeeper Johann Gottfried Belitz and Marie Therese Ruinat . His brother Julius (1781-1859) also became an actor.

Life

La Roche had first studied veterinary medicine , but found no satisfaction in it. He wanted "to portray living people rather than dissecting dead animals" and therefore went to the theater as an actor.

After he made his debut at the Seconda 'sche Gesellschaft in Dresden , he got an engagement at the theater in Danzig , then in Lemberg , Berlin, Königsberg and in 1823 in Weimar .

From here he made guest appearances in Hanover, Hamburg, Berlin and other places. In 1833 he received a lifelong engagement at the Burgtheater in Vienna; he belonged to this theater until his death. In 1873 he was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown III. Class was raised to the hereditary Austrian knighthood.

Carl von La Roche died at the age of 89 and found his final resting place in the Matzleinsdorf Evangelical Cemetery in Vienna (crypt 228). In 1894 in Vienna- Hietzing (13th district) the Larochegasse (old spelling La Roche-Gasse ) was named after him.

family

La Roche was married twice. The first time in 1815 in Danzig with Henriette Wagner, the daughter of a colleague. After their divorce, he married the actress Auguste Kladzig on March 24, 1833 in Berlin . His daughter Amalie (1817-1881) was also a singer. His son Heinrich served in the Austrian Navy and died after long suffering in May 1872 at the age of 38.

reception

Carl von La Roche was always up to his task in every respect. Nature was what he strived for in all representations and for which he had the means, both in grasping the genius of the poet and in understanding the characters and ingeniously reviving what was given by the poet, to a high degree.
